Installation

If you're seeing AVG flag this as a virus, then that's a false positive. See here.

If you see an error saying Could not write value PackageCode, reboot your machine and try again.

After Installation

If nothing's happening, check whether you see this message:

The plugins will only work if the owners of your group have chosen to opt in. It's possible your group moderators don't know about the plugin, so you could mail them to check.

If your group is opted in, but it's not working, check that Tools->Options->Advanced->Browsing->Enable third-party browser extensions is checked:

Then check whether it shows up under Tools->Manage Add-ons->Enable or Disable Add-ons:

Sometimes it will show up here but won't show anything in the Publisher column. If this happens, you should mention it when reporting the problems (it means a problem with registration, in technical terms). Then try Registering Manually.

If that doesn't work, check if you're using a customised version of Internet Explorer, for example from AT&T. If it doesn't say Windows Internet Explorer on the title bar, there's a good chance it's customised, and often plugins like this are disabled on customised versions. You'll need to try using a standard version of IE instead.

Errors

You may receive a cookie error when you open the Yahoo Groups site, either right away or when you click "Post":

If this is the case, it's most likely because your default IE privacy settings need to be changed. First, get into your Internet Options area, and select the Privacy tab:

Then click Advanced, de-select the Override automatic cookie handling (Vista w/ IE7 example -- other versions of Windows and/or Internet Explorer may be slightly different) option, click OK on the options boxes, and then try again. Your problem should be resolved, if it was caused by IE settings.

Alternatively, the problem could be caused by your internet security software -- try disabling that temporarily and note whether the problem still exists. If not, your internet security software's settings need to be tweaked.

Registry Permissions

Sometimes the way your computer is set up means that the plugin doesn't have permissions to write to the Registry, which is where programs can store information. You may need to give it permission manually.

To do this:

  • Click on Start then Run...
  • Enter regedit in the box.
  • This will bring up a window. Navigate down through the tree to My Computer then HKEY_CURRENT_USER then Software.
  • Right click on FreecyclePlugin then select Permissions.
  • If your user doesn't appear in the box, then click Add.
  • Type the name of the user you're logged onto Windows as in the bottom box, and click Check Names.
  • Once you've found your name, click OK.
  • Then click on your user, which should now appear in the list.
  • Check the checkbox in the Full Control row under Allow.
  • Click OK.

Now try using the plugin again.

Intermittent Problems

Sometimes you'll see the extension not load, particularly if you refresh a page. Use the menu on the left hand side to navigate away from the Post page (e.g. to the Messages page) and then back again - that should kick it into life.

Getting Debug

Occasionally, you may be asked to get debug information.
