Updating AVG Virus Checker

Here are some instructions on how to update your AVG Free 8.0 Virus Checking Software, so that it doesn't warn you about the plugin.

To update the data files in version 8 of AVG, run AVG Free User Interface from your start menu:

For XP click on Start then Programs, and for Vista on the Windows Symbol then Programs.
Find the AVG Free 8.0 group then click on AVG Free User Interface.
Now select Update Now from the left hand part of the AVG User Interface. This will tell you what updates are available - allow them all to install, and you should find there are no longer any alerts triggered by the plugin.

To ensure your copy of AVG 8 updates automatically without ever needing to click the "Update Now" link again then follow these instructions.

When you are on the interface window as shown above, click Tools on the top line
From the drop down menu select Advanced settings
In new window double click Schedules to open the drop down menu which offers another 3 options. Click each of these in turn.
On then Scheduled Scan tab
- under Schedule running, select when you would like it to run (e.g. every 24hrs)
- under Advanced schedule options, select Run on computer startup if task missed
- under Task Settings click 'Enable this task'
On Virus Update database schedule tab do exactly the same as above and also enable Run the update again as soon as the internet connection is available
On Program Update Schedule tab do exactly the same as Virus Update above
Now click Apply and OK and you should never need to manually update or scan ever again.
